Rain sounds
No timer
Space plays or pauses. B toggles the black screen.
Noise plays in the background while you do something else. NSDR (non-sleep deep rest) is guided rest. You lie still with your eyes closed, stay awake, and follow a voice that moves your attention through your body and slows your breathing.
This rain isn't a recording. The player makes it in your browser from three layers: a steady wash of distant rain, a soft patter of nearby drops, and closer drops on top. There's no thunder and no gust of wind. Because it's generated, there's no gap you can hear when it loops and nothing to buffer.

Long or repeated exposure at 85 dBA or more can cause hearing loss, so turn it up only until it covers the sounds that bother you. Put your phone across the room, not by your head.
In a 2026 sleep-lab study, a night of pink noise alone at 50 dB cut REM sleep by about 19 minutes. Rain wasn't tested, but this rain is a steady, broadband sound too, so 50 dB is a ceiling, not a target. Set the timer so it fades out instead of playing all night. Basner 2026
The likely reason is that it's steady. It covers the sudden sounds that would otherwise wake you, like a door or a passing car. Nobody has tested rain itself.
Rain is softer. Most of its energy sits in the middle pitches, and the drops give it some texture. White noise is an even hiss right up to the highest pitches. Neither has good evidence for sleep, so pick the one you stop noticing.
Nobody has tested a whole night of rain sounds. The closest result is the 2026 study where a night of pink noise at 50 dB cut REM sleep. If you need it all night to cover traffic or a snoring partner, keep it under 50 dB and across the room. If you only need help falling asleep, set the timer.
