The NSDR iPhone app

This section covers the NSDR app for iPhone. The rest of this policy covers the website.

• No account. The app doesn’t ask you to sign up or log in, and it doesn’t ask for your name, email address or contacts.
• No ads. The app shows no ads. We don’t sell app data or share it for advertising, and the app doesn’t use Apple’s advertising identifier.
• On your phone. Your progress, your settings and any audio you download are stored on your phone. If you delete the app, they are deleted with it, though a backup of your phone may still hold a copy. The app doesn’t read or write Apple Health data.
• Reminders. If you turn reminders on, iOS schedules them on your phone.

Usage data

If usage sharing is on, the app sends usage events to PostHog, the analytics service we use, on its EU servers. The events record things like:

• which sessions you play, pause and finish, and how long you listen;
• steps in the first-run setup, including the goal you pick (sleep, stress, focus or energy) and the reminder time of day you choose;
• when the app is opened or closed.

Each event carries a random install ID that the app creates, plus basic technical details such as the app version, iOS version, device model, language and time zone. The install ID isn’t linked to your name, email address or Apple ID, and we don’t combine it with data from other companies. The app asks PostHog not to work out your location from your IP address. We use these events to see which sessions get played and finished, and to decide what to make next.

Turning it off. Usage sharing is on when you install the app. You can turn it off at any time in the app’s Settings with the usage data switch. While it’s off, the app sends no usage events.

Content downloads

The app downloads its list of sessions and the session audio from our server, audio.nsdr.co, which runs on Cloudflare. As with any web request, the server receives your IP address and basic request details so it can deliver the files. We don’t use these to identify you.

Your choices and rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask to see, correct or delete personal data we hold about you, and object to how we use it. Because app usage data isn’t linked to your name, we may not be able to tell which events are yours, but turning off the usage data switch stops any more being sent.
