Green noise
No timer
Space plays or pauses. B toggles the black screen.
Noise plays in the background while you do something else. NSDR (non-sleep deep rest) is guided rest. You lie still with your eyes closed, stay awake, and follow a voice that moves your attention through your body and slows your breathing.
Green noise is steady noise with the middle frequencies turned up, usually said to centre near 500 Hz. It has less hiss than white noise and less rumble than brown. Unlike white, pink and brown noise, it has no agreed definition. The name is a marketing label, not an acoustics standard.
Long or repeated exposure at 85 dBA or more can cause hearing loss, so turn it up only until it covers the sounds that bother you. Put your phone across the room, not by your head. For sleep, stay under 50 dB and set the timer so it fades out instead of playing all night.
As a sound, yes. This player makes it by shaping white noise around 500 Hz. As a sleep aid, it is unproven. No study has tested it on people, and the evidence for steady noise in general is very low quality.
There is no direct evidence either way, because it hasn't been studied. The closest result is the 2026 study where a night of pink noise at 50 dB cut REM sleep, so keep it under 50 dB and set the timer. If your room is already quiet, you may not need any noise.
You don't need one. This page plays green noise for free in the browser on your phone or laptop, with a sleep timer and a black screen. Put the phone across the room and keep the volume low.
There is no good evidence that one colour is better for sleep, so pick the one you stop noticing. White is the brightest hiss, brown the deepest rumble, and green sits in the middle. Brown noise vs white noise compared
