GABA
Also called gamma-aminobutyric acid
What Huberman said
Huberman says that on some nights he takes 100 mg GABA together with 2 g glycine on top of his standard sleep stack: 3 to 4 nights per week in his newsletter, and every third or fourth night in the Sleep Toolkit episode.
Doses, as he worded them
“100mg GABA”[1]
3-4 nights per week, with 2g glycine
Quoted, not prescribed. Talk to a doctor or pharmacist first if you take medication, are pregnant or have a health condition.
Cautions he mentions
- He takes it only some nights because if he takes it too often the entire sleep stack doesn't work quite as effectively for him.[2]
Safety notes from independent sources
- A US Pharmacopeia safety review found that some studies linked GABA to a temporary, moderate drop in blood pressure, so take care if you use blood pressure medicines. There are no studies of GABA in pregnancy or breastfeeding, and the review advises caution. Oketch-Rabah et al. 2021, Nutrients (USP safety review)
